Germany

image-1378986523528-VGermany-Germany was absolutely amazing! The first day I, again, had a field lab and it was for my Drawing II class. We toured around all of the art museums and had a meal at a cute little pub. The vegetable soup was unreal! The first night many of the semester at sea kids went to an area with a lot if bars and clubs and unlike Russia, the Germans were much more outgoing and were more welcoming and fun. I sat at the  bar with a few Germans and after a bit of conversation one of them mentioned that the one and only time they had been to the states their apartment was robbed and they left their vacation early because thy didn’t feel safe. Many Europeans think that America is not nearly as safe as their countries, but I guess that’s how we all think, that home is safer. On the second day we were going to get on a bus to head towards Berlin for a big music festival and after wondering around a friend and I came across a big beautiful park that we could have explored for hours. It was right in the middle of the city and there was hills of grass and flowers and fountains with lawn chairs randomly placed throughout all of it with many Europeans just relaxing.  That is definitely my favorite thing about Europe and Germany specifically is how relaxed they are.  There is so much money to be made in a America and Germany’s government runs so much of their lives through taxes to schooling but it works so well for them. Over half their pay check just went to taxes but they still have the time to sit in the park with family and friends or even by themselves and enjoy life.
But anyways we got on a cute Mercedes bus to Berlin and stayed in a hostel/hotel which was not too bad. Hostels so far have yet to fail me and its always an I ferreting atmosphere.
The next day we jumped on a hop on hop off bus. The Berlin Wall was incredible! I imagined it being a large wall with a lot of historical importance but it was that completely covered in art! Every aspect of it was so creative and there was no ten yards that was like another.  We spent more time there then anywhere else. We also went to a market that we tried many different foods but the CHEESE! Oh my goodness is was soooo good! It was real! It was kind if wet still and had an odd texture but I will never think if cheese the same.
We ate at a random take out place and I got a fluffl burrito thing that I cannot remember the name of but there were balls of like fried corn mixed with a burrito and some Berlin type ranch sauce. Probably not something healthy but it sure was good. That night we went to the Berlin music festival. It was mostly electronic music and day part was in an abandon airport and the night (the after party) was in what looked like a small shack and ended up being as big as a football stadium with multiple rooms, one being a “beach bar” with sand. The funniest part of that trip was though that the festival got over at 6am and we got in a train back to Antwerp(where the boat is) at 715am. There was about 50 American kids with 20 Germans thinking what in the world.
I then got a crepe with chocolate, walked on the boat, changed into my running clothes, went on a run, and got pooped on by a bird.
Germany way a great time! 🙂
